No, but I think it's likely that he wasn't seriously affected, since the quake hit some northern islands and not Tokyo or environs. One of my friends also has friends in Japan, and one of them (who also lives in Tokyo) checked in to say that she was fine--she didn't know anything had happened until she heard the news. So I'm guessing that I haven't heard from H in a couple of days because a.) Real Life (tm) and b.) he's formulating an answer to my Big Large McHuge e-mail. (We don't write any other kind, really.)
