xifeng: (OMG YAY)
Good things!

+ Lolmom is much more chipper than she was earlier this week, so hurrah. I know she kind of has to cycle through the beating-herself-up-about-all-this deal, but it is unpleasant to watch people do that and be unable to help in any concrete way, so I'm glad she's reached the point where she's like, "lol k, cans not undu. wat i du nau?".

+ So the space-time continuum doubled up on itself, and apparently there's an alternate universe somewhere where April 2011 was a really AWESOME, HIGH-VOLUME month and alternate universe l33 was pretty busy. Unfortunately for alternate universe l33, her incentive pay wound up on my paycheck. (...okay, the truth is that we all got an adjustment for volume because that wasn't our fault, but the alternate-universe thing is more entertaining than the truth.)

+ YOU GUYS OUR FIRST CSA PICKUP IS THIS WEEKEND~ Based on last year, I'm thinking we'll probably get some tatsoi and kale, but I can't think what else. I just remember the tatsoi, because there was a lot of it, and kale, because that was how I discovered that I actually LIKE kale, after previously believing that I did not. Oh, maybe we'll get some collard greens and mustard greens too.

+ HOKAI WE GOT THE MEDS SETTLED. I am taking 1500 mg for the next week and then going to 2000 mg, and then I'm supposed to ring them up and tell them how I'm doing, so this will apparently determine what my dosage is going to be in the next three months.

+ Hello, new LJ friends! Cookies now :D (Or, you know, something else if you're not that into cookies.) Feel free to ask me what the hell I'm talking about if you're confused/intrigued by the content here.

+ Hopefully tomorrow night will see THE MUMMY STORY. :D (If you already know what I'm talking about, you can help by keeping your mouth shut and waiting for the story.)

Urf. As ever, coming to this after the event, BUT HOWEVER:

Happy belated birthday, [livejournal.com profile] cthulhulovesme and [livejournal.com profile] lemurjoe!

On this date, lo these many years ago, [livejournal.com profile] duokinneas was born. After almost 16 years of intensive training, during the course of which she learnt to produce shoujo bubbles, perfect the flying glomptackle, and consume waffles without leaving a trace, she accomplished her objective some 5 years ago: viz., enter l33's LJ and steal her heart.

Here are some more hearts to steal, because every year we do insufferable rainbow hearts.

I l0ff j00, uke princess! Happy birthday!

Briar's username very aptly describes her, as she is called Briar and she is rather bohemian. She has pink hair, and is awesome. I wish I'd had half her balls at the same age, because I might have a few more adventures under my belt now (I'd have been hanging out in St. Petersburg, though, not NYC). In any case, today, it is her birthday.

Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] briarlaboheme!

I'm very interested to see what you'll do in the next year.

1.) I had to go to Hendo for an interview yesterday (I think I'm out of the running for that one; sometimes you just know), and was struck by how different the place seems to Indiana, even though it's 30-40 minutes from Evansville and there's a lot of back-and-forth between the two cities (not to mention southeastern Illinois, which is also a few miles off). I can't put my finger on it; maybe it's just the weird knowledge that oh hey, I'm in the South now. (When I was growing up, my grandparents lived in Georgia, and we visited every so often; we also spent some time in Virginia and North Carolina, vacationly speaking. Because of this, I like visiting the South and I have happy memories of it, though aspects of it are seriously borked such that I'd never want to live there.) Anyway, just off 41, there's a leasing company that offers apartments at weekly rates, which started me fantasizing, even though this raises questions (blah blah blah other obligations blah blah blah finding work gabble gabble don't seriously want to live in Kentucky I mean WHAT would I tell people rhubarb rhubarb) and if I did do it, it would seriously blow my residency status all to hell when I go back to school next year, not to mention get my University library privileges revoked until I go back. This last is The Thing That Must Not Be.

2.) For no apparent reason, I am craving the Russian Revolution SO BAD. Hello there, teenaged!l33! How are you today?
2a.) Apparently, I am still emotionally a lot more sympathetic towards Communism than I thought (O RLY???) because every time I read articles critical of the ideology, I get a little huffy in my brain. (In fairness, there's also pro-Communist stuff out there which is total glurge, and I can't stand to read that shit either.)
2b.) Clearly, I will never be grown up. OH NOES.
2c.) Conventional adulthood is for simps anyway.
2d.) Maybe I should just go down to Coyoacan one of these days like I always wanted to do and get it out of my system.
2e.) …never mind. It will probably never be out of my system. COMMUNISM: It broke my heart and part of me still loves it all the same.

3.) The other night, I had a dream that I had fallen asleep on [livejournal.com profile] duokinneas, which had absolutely no basis in reality but was v. nice all the same.

4.) Decided to crash on the couch last night with the porch door open and the fan going. Callice climbed up and snuggled up on my feet (not on the blanket, which is her preferred bed) and stayed there more or less until I woke up. My back hates me now, but it was otherwise v. pleasant.

5.) Don't have to be at work until 6:30 (but once I'm there, I have to stick it out until midnight, because we are SO BUSY at midnight, you know), and if I can get through another 5-and-a-half-hour shift tomorrow, I shall have earned my day off. Really not looking forward to tonight, though. Good thing I don't have to leave for another 4 hours.

6.) Made cabbage salad for lunch and had it with a hard-boiled egg and half an avocado and a chunk of baguette. We need more eggs now, though. Also, I need to finish some of the leftovers in the fridge. Nom nom nom. :9

7.) Need to clean up the kitchen shortly. l33 out.

Also, I'm going to forget unless I do this right now, so:
The cut, she has big letters! )

Pixel lives in your computer, from whence she emits lol rays which turn you into her mindless zombie slave (she may also hack and reconfigure your DNA at her sole discretion). Today, it is her birthday, and for that, we salute her.

[livejournal.com profile] duokinneas was my favorite Christmas present when I was 8, despite having to wait another 16 years before she was ready to play with (she required some assembly). Also, at the time I didn't know that Talyn would be my favorite Christmas present, so foolishly preferred the E-Z-Bake Oven over her.

Anyway, special seahorse, yesterday you were 20. And now you are no longer a teenager and have started on your second decade of double digits, so I guess I should stop mumbling about Damn Kids. Just think--one more year until you're legally old enough to drink!

Please forgive your old seme for not posting on the day itself; I had had to be at work by 5:30 in the morning, after a fitful night's sleep during which my wisdom teeth persistently woke me, so when I got home I was out cold for about 15 hours.

Anyway, because it is an Immutable Tradition, I present the pièce de résistence: SOME MORE SICKENING RAINBOW HEARTS.

Happy belated birthday!

Old stuff )

New stuff:
It was actually [livejournal.com profile] vnmpire's birthday on Mon., and I might have thoughtfully remembered the occasion if I hadn't been falling asleep at the computer. Ha, I'm such a great LJ friend. Or, y'know, not.

I just finished In Pharaoh's Army by Tobias Wolff, which is good, but which also made me a bit sad because our copy of the book had belonged to my father. (I haven't been able to locate his copy of This Boy's Life, and think he may have taken it with him, but I don't know. It's possible that it got moved to a different shelf and I just haven't caught up with it yet.) Wolff's work was, at one time, very significant to us and still carries those associations for me.

It's pushing the '80s and '90s here in the rolling hills of scenic southern Indiana. Soon, I can has A/C if I can manage to stick it out another 23 days until my birthday.

Have discovered that we still have the ice cream maker! HURRAH. (The lolmom made noises about putting it up in the last garage sale she had.) There will be many ice creams this summer. I shall perfect the frosty art of making them. Besides, it's as good a way as any to use up some of the remaining strawberries.
