+ Happy belated birthday to![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
forgottensanity, because I am the worst friend ever and had completely forgotten it until I saw the birthday announcement on Tara's LJ.
+ Survived Black Friday. Barely.
+ I would like to apologize to everybody who has me friended on Goodreads, because I have neglected it lately and have made up for this by a torrent o' spam.
+augustuscaesar, I got your Christmas card a couple of days ago! :D The lolmom likes it when you send cards with pictures of Australia, btw, so the Melbourne scene drew enthusiastic approval.
+ DREAM OF THE RED CHAMBER GET. I figured I could finally spare $31 to special-order the last two volumes from Borders. Not that I don't just love going to Bloomington, but it does save some space in my special lugging-books-around bag for when I want to read the last two volumes of the novel.
+ Incidentally, in re: the enduring controversies of Redology, here is my stance if anyone cares: I would argue that the female characters' feet are not bound (though logically they ought to be, given the time and the place), based on the amount of Tromping Around they all do. Also, while I like both Xue Bao-chai and Lin Dai-yu, I like Dai-yu above Bao-chai. (My very favorite character, of course, is one Wang Xi-feng.)
+ Due to the above, there may be some Dream of the Red Chamber fanfiction off the starboard bow, because nothing pays tribute to the Four Great Classics of Chinese literature like some white chick dorking one of them up. Why yes I do think about this a lot, it's started to figure in my dreams.
+ Dream of the Red Chamber Dream of the Red Chamber Dream of the Red Chamber. In conclusion, samurai and Communism; also, the ancient world.
+ Totally unrelated to the above, Callice went to the vet today and has received her shots. Also, she's a lardass, and I've started meal-feeding her (putting her food bowl down for an hour in the morning and evening and then putting it up). She does not like this and has taken to trying to educate me about the dangers of pellagra, beri-beri, and rickets. Her arguments would be a lot more convincing if a.) they didn't all consist of the sound "ao" repeated at varying pitches and volumes, and b.) she actually were malnourished.
+ Have decided to actually finish reading the Nihongi, and have found some more dirty bits to translate from the Latin. You may remember this summer's smash hit involving hawtt, sexy wagtail action. THERE IS MORE WHERE THAT CAME FROM. O BBY.
+ Minor drama with wisdom teeth. It felt not unlike an inordinate amount of pressure being brought to bear on the left side of my jaw. Hopefully it's over. I hope. Because I really don't want to take any more ibuprofen over the next year. (Yes, you read that correctly. I only pop a pill if the pain is so persistent and/or severe that I can't go about my business normally, because I don't want to build up any kind of tolerance or dependence on it, and yes, that is a danger with ibuprofen.)
+ Have contemplated continuing the hoary old tradition of Not Sending Christmas Cards, but am not sure I see the point. It's not that I don't love you or want you to have a Christmas card, but the card in question may need to come from someone other than me, because every year I get swamped and every year it doesn't happen. Due to old-fashioned notions of reciprocity, I haven't left my address for anybody, but if you want it (or want me to have yours), let me know.

Date: 2008-12-11 05:19 am (UTC)Black Friday (Buy Nothing Day for me) was...scary. DDDD: And by "scary" I mean that there was no place to park, and I had to defeat customers in hand-to-hand combat just to get to the time clock. Once it got to be about 8:00 or 8:30, it cleared up, but still!
At least we've been consistently busy. The only thing worse than doing a menial and insulting job is doing a menial and insulting job on a slow day. XD

♥ Even if I've never read Dream of the Red Chamber - tried to pick it up once when I was, like, fourteen and was stupidly boggled by it - I would so read that fanfiction anyway.

You should try picking it up again now that you're older and mature enough to appreciate its rich tapestry of leitmotifs (for instance, "Your seme is pretty sure that Wang Xi-feng is banging her servant Patience like a screen door in a thunderstorm"). Or you can read my fanfic and have fun making up a different story. Whichever. ♥
