Oh, eww--poor Pixel, that's horrific. DDDD: I was 13 when I had the first holes put in, and my parents made me prove that I could take care of them first before they'd allow me to have it done, so I didn't have a whole lot of problems (other than that my right ear has had some Staying Open Properly issues; I finally gave up and keep earrings in it as much as possible so it doesn't close altogether).
Teeny bopper stores are horrifying. Your sensitive skin is probably at least partially at fault for the swollen lobes, but also, the ear piercing guns they use at those places can't be properly sterilized. (Rubbing alcohol does not get the job done.) Not, you know, to give you a case of the galloping paranoids or anything.
If you do decide to have them pierced again (eventually), I'd go to a reputable professional piercer. If they're on the up and up, they won't mind when you're all like SHOW ME YOUR AUTOCLAVE OMG.
