Okay. So, the fabulous that was [livejournal.com profile] anjala's wedding, by Popular Request. Special emphasis on clothes for the effeminate pansy contingent.

Anjala and Dillan have been together for 8 and a half years, and Dillan is in the service, so he's being deployed (as in, "deployed to Iraq") before much longer. I am informed that this wedding was the precursor to a larger, more formal ceremony which will be held after his safe return.

I am a dumbass, so I decided that I was by God going to drive the four hours up to Indy and back again, because my friends don't get married every day. Despite a scary episode with my power brakes (which I'm not used to yet) and a slick highway, I got there okay and even found the church! Huzzah! I did, however, arrive too late for 6 p.m. service, so I sat in the lobby and after the service let out, wandered about and looked generally disoriented. (Look, I'm a Roman Catholic--I'm used to Catholic churches, which seem to be built differently. We usually use the church for worship only and have a secondary building for CCD, fish fries, etc.) Finally, I found the sanctuary and staggered in, where I promptly sat in the back. I could see Anj floating about outside the door while we got situated, which reassured me that I was in the right place.

This was a small ceremony, so there was no music. I had never met or seen Dillan before, and I guess he didn't much look like my mental picture. (Surprising no one, people never look like what I think.) Anyway, as soon as we were all settled and comparatively quiet, the ceremony began.

This is the part where I'd say something like "the bride wore beige peau de soie" if I were a society pages writer, but I'm not, and the bride didn't wear beige anything let alone peau de soie. She had the white theme going on, by which I mean that she wore a white tank top with ruffles and lace and such, and a matching skirt. Also a white straw cowboy hat with a veil. (Dillan's hat was black, so there was Chromatic Contrast.)

Anyway. It was a pretty short ceremony: there were allusions to the Book of Ruth, the exchanging of vows (during which Anj got audibly teary--not that I fault her, I almost did too), and the exchanging of rings. And so our intrepid heroes were joined in Holy Union.

After this, we formed a higgledy-piggledy receiving line and I was squished by both the bride and groom (the latter about two seconds after we introduced ourselves--not that I'm complaining. I'm just not used to being squished by people I just met). Anj wanted to know if I had to leave RIGHT THAT INSTANT or if I was going to stick around and have cake. As I am strongly pro-cake, I immediately announced my desire to stick around; after all, one should never pass up free cake (or an opportunity to watch the bride and groom link arms to drink Pepsi).

In the reception area, which looks a bit like a cafeteria outside of the sanctuary, I was introduced to [livejournal.com profile] beldar (hi there) and [livejournal.com profile] the_dark_snack, and there was talk of French. (It's not as dirty as it sounds, really.) Eventually, of course, I had to wend my way home, and managed to arrive at about midnight and crash around 12:30. And a good time was had by all.

In today's exciting news, there are EIGHT more days until my last day of work which is also coincidentally my birthday. Also my new insurance card for the Toyota came, so I can prove that I have Full Coverage, yo. Also also, things from [livejournal.com profile] forgottensanity and [livejournal.com profile] augustuscaesar came in the mail; I suspect the two of you of fomenting a Sekrit International Konspirasey. However, you will be glad to know that I did not immediately fall on them and rip them open. (In Tara's case, she indicated that she would cry if I failed to wait until my birthday, because Tara knows which buttons to mash and how.)

And then some other stuff, no doubt, will happen.
