The Yesterday Report
Jun. 19th, 2006 07:03 pmOkay. So, the fabulous that was
anjala's wedding, by Popular Request. Special emphasis on clothes for the effeminate pansy contingent.
Anjala and Dillan have been together for 8 and a half years, and Dillan is in the service, so he's being deployed (as in, "deployed to Iraq") before much longer. I am informed that this wedding was the precursor to a larger, more formal ceremony which will be held after his safe return.
I am a dumbass, so I decided that I was by God going to drive the four hours up to Indy and back again, because my friends don't get married every day. Despite a scary episode with my power brakes (which I'm not used to yet) and a slick highway, I got there okay and even found the church! Huzzah! I did, however, arrive too late for 6 p.m. service, so I sat in the lobby and after the service let out, wandered about and looked generally disoriented. (Look, I'm a Roman Catholic--I'm used to Catholic churches, which seem to be built differently. We usually use the church for worship only and have a secondary building for CCD, fish fries, etc.) Finally, I found the sanctuary and staggered in, where I promptly sat in the back. I could see Anj floating about outside the door while we got situated, which reassured me that I was in the right place.
This was a small ceremony, so there was no music. I had never met or seen Dillan before, and I guess he didn't much look like my mental picture. (Surprising no one, people never look like what I think.) Anyway, as soon as we were all settled and comparatively quiet, the ceremony began.
This is the part where I'd say something like "the bride wore beige peau de soie" if I were a society pages writer, but I'm not, and the bride didn't wear beige anything let alone peau de soie. She had the white theme going on, by which I mean that she wore a white tank top with ruffles and lace and such, and a matching skirt. Also a white straw cowboy hat with a veil. (Dillan's hat was black, so there was Chromatic Contrast.)
Anyway. It was a pretty short ceremony: there were allusions to the Book of Ruth, the exchanging of vows (during which Anj got audibly teary--not that I fault her, I almost did too), and the exchanging of rings. And so our intrepid heroes were joined in Holy Union.
After this, we formed a higgledy-piggledy receiving line and I was squished by both the bride and groom (the latter about two seconds after we introduced ourselves--not that I'm complaining. I'm just not used to being squished by people I just met). Anj wanted to know if I had to leave RIGHT THAT INSTANT or if I was going to stick around and have cake. As I am strongly pro-cake, I immediately announced my desire to stick around; after all, one should never pass up free cake (or an opportunity to watch the bride and groom link arms to drink Pepsi).
In the reception area, which looks a bit like a cafeteria outside of the sanctuary, I was introduced to
beldar (hi there) and
the_dark_snack, and there was talk of French. (It's not as dirty as it sounds, really.) Eventually, of course, I had to wend my way home, and managed to arrive at about midnight and crash around 12:30. And a good time was had by all.
In today's exciting news, there are EIGHT more days until my last day of work which is also coincidentally my birthday. Also my new insurance card for the Toyota came, so I can prove that I have Full Coverage, yo. Also also, things from
forgottensanity and
augustuscaesar came in the mail; I suspect the two of you of fomenting a Sekrit International Konspirasey. However, you will be glad to know that I did not immediately fall on them and rip them open. (In Tara's case, she indicated that she would cry if I failed to wait until my birthday, because Tara knows which buttons to mash and how.)
And then some other stuff, no doubt, will happen.

Date: 2006-06-20 12:04 am (UTC)Did Dillan look like an icon on legs?
I was the opposite at Dom's wedding. I didn't hug Jeremy, because it was only the second time I'd met him, and I don't like to be touched by people I haven't known for at least two years *g* I think it was probably bad ettiquette on my behalf, though.
I am glad you are behaving yourself on the Envelope From Australia front.

Date: 2006-06-20 12:13 am (UTC)No, he didn't, although he looked much younger than I expected. I was like, "OMG he looks like he's 16! Are they really going to let him get married?"
Naahh, I know where you're coming from. Ordinarily I don't either, but it was one of those occasions where one just sort of goes with the flow, so I did. *g*
I am. I am a-ph33red of the army of hearts on the back. I think they might jab me with their pointy ends.

I am surprised it got through US customs with an army on the back of it *G*

Date: 2006-06-20 10:49 pm (UTC)That sounds like such a cute ceremony! I won't squee and wai and make noises of idiotic appreciation, but I think cowboy hats with veils are in very adorable taste.
Pepsi is the devil, but I forgive
Holy -! Link me to your Amazon wishlist again, Lee, and fast! I need to send you something for your birthday!

Date: 2006-06-21 02:38 am (UTC)It was a cute ceremony, all things considered. Dillan didn't have a tuxedo going on, but he did have a white button-down shirt with a dark tie and black pants; it was a fairly casual wedding.
The only thing you need to know about the church is that its design completely baffled me and my tiny Catholic brain was yelling OH NOES! OH NOES! as I tried to navigate it.
No, no you don't. However, because I will receive no peace from a pestering princess (oooh, alliteration) until I do, a ph33rs0m3 wishlist off the starboard bow (http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/2FPXOCEJOSZIE).

Date: 2006-06-22 06:32 am (UTC)I approve, then. Tuxedos are all well and good, but I suppose he'd've looked out of place, not so different than if he had showed up in a t-shirt. **shudders at the thought**
Both churches I've been in have made sense to me; Sacred Heart separates its church from the offices and other rooms for non-mass-related purposes with a broad hallway that attaches to an atrium, and All Saints Episcopal is all one building with the actual church at the far, far side. To me, not being a Christian of any persuasion or denomination, it doesn't matter the layout, as long as the exterior and interior are pretty and well-kept.
And are you being prejudiced against your own religion by calling your brain both tiny and Catholic? **snickles**
Yes, I do! And thank you for the linkage, Lee. ^__^

Date: 2006-06-23 03:44 am (UTC)It was a short-sleeved shirt, but it was still a button-down with a tie. Besides, anything is better than one of those novelty tuxedo T-shirts that you get through the gag gift catalogues.
NO. It has to look just like what I'm used to, or it doesn't count. ^_- It should also be borne in mind that I had driven four hours and was not at the top of my game.
No, you don't. But okay. ^___^
