Exciting Adventures of All Kinds!

(Warning: May not actually contain excitement or adventure.)
So I got put on the E Team Dropouts Tues. night (same principle, except all of us are dreadful salesmen, or at least selling like dreadful salesmen right now), flogging NASCAR. It was like pulling teeth, d00d. I don't think I got anything until after 7 o'clock, when I'd already been at work for 3 hours. On the upside, Mandybelle said she might put me on the HD-flogging team which is a little more service-oriented (seriously, I've had a ton of people go, "OMG my problems, let me tell you them!!!!", which is disconcerting when I'm trying to flog Porn-O-Paks or whatever). So, yes, my performance was complete and total pants that night, but it was better than it has been.
I think the battery is going out in my car, or at least starting on the long slow decline. I had a few times over the past week or so where I had trouble starting it (once it was started, I was fine). It's the battery that was in the car when I bought it and all, so I guess it's time, but still, those things ain't cheap. Still, two months ago, I wouldn't have been able to afford it at all. (And if it had gone out then, and I'd had to inform STFU Bitch that I couldn't go to work because my car had no battery, she'd have been all, "o y must u b so unrezonabul??? i duz so much 4 u!!11" Yeah, whatevs, which is why I QUIT YOU in order to take a job I really didn't want but that has made my quality of life a lot better. OMG MY BILLS, I CAN PAY THEM.)
I made Thai-style stir-fried chicken for dinner last night. It was delicious. I was afraid the Sriracha was going to be too much for the lolmom (spicy foods are her natural enemies) but it was a nice, subtle (but zippy) undertone in the marinade. It worked well last week when I put it in the marinade for the chicken thighs, too.
The lolmom located strawberries over the weekend, and is now obsessed with picking them, because it's been good weather for strawberries. It's like the peach debacle of 2006, where I was constantly making runs to the Big Peach ("look, Mom, I got you a bushel of peaches!"). Actually, the Peach should have opened back up by now; I should make a run up there sometime soon.
We had PGS last night, rife with hilarity; the discussion topic this week was the Venus of Willendorf and What It Means And Doesn't Mean. I'm not a proponent of the Golden Age of Matriarchythat's because I know history, and it bugs me that a lot of popular paganism appears to be based on rank misunderstandings or misinterpretations (or maybe that's my perception, coming from a Reconstructionist background rather than a Wiccan-derived or Wiccan-influenced one). Most documented ancient societies were not matriarchal; we know more about Celtic religion than some authors would have you believe; and if you're going to make shit up, at least have the decency to say "we made this up" instead of acting like it's a long-lost revival of a secret tradition. Oh, and there is a difference between matrilocality, matrilineality if that's an actual word, and matriarchy. The first two do not necessarily imply the third, and vice versa. Anyway, that notwithstanding, it was a lot of fun. I enjoy being there.
After that I went to see The Forbidden Kingdom, which is one of those movies I have to see by myself because the lolmom doesn't understand the rich mosaic of themes and motifs that is the martial arts flick. Still, it was fun; there were some good fight sequences and the scenery was dreamy. :D
And then today I ate at the Fish again (mmm, grilled salmon with tartar sauce on a pumpernickel bun, with coleslaw, mmmm) and went for a green tea. This is my splurging day; the rest of the week is for walking the straight and narrow.
I have to go to work tomorrow, but Tuesday will be here soon enough. (For those of you just tuning in to the long-running, if not terribly popular, Wang Xi-feng Show, I work second shift in a call center, and my schedule includes working most of the day on Saturday and half a day on Sunday. Tuesday and Wednesdays are my days off.)
Also, a minor rant:
Prince Caspian has not been in theatres in the US for a week, and already the Mary Sues are crawling out from under their proverbial rock. Le sigh. Srsly, I was just in the Pit of Voles the other day because I thought I might revive the Sunday rec tradition, and I hopped over to see if there was any good Narnia fic of late.
I'm not sure what I was expecting, to be honest, but it damn sure wasn't the plethora of Sues. I should really know better after all this time, shouldn't I?
(PS: I don't care what none of y'all say. Narnia RULES.)
Also also, ♥ for
forgottensanity, because she didn't say I couldn't give her a heart. Callice has expressed a desire to be sent to Denmark, there to sit on Cat's lap and purr.

Date: 2008-05-23 06:40 am (UTC)Apparently there's a fairly recent line of scholarly thought to the effect that the Venuses were actually The First Pr0n, which amuses me so. I have this mental image of pimply Stone Age teenagers, practicing sympathetic magic in the hopes that tiny statues of naked ladies would proceed to attract actual naked ladies to their part of the cave.
Having tried something similar, albeit with slightly more technological sophistication, at about the same age, I can assure you it does not work.

Date: 2008-05-23 06:01 am (UTC)*sings off-key* It's the end of the woooooorrrrrrld as we know it~ I feel fiiiiiiine~ :D Srsly, if you see the Antichrist, let me know, k? Or just run him over with your car. I mean, it's the Antichrist, so running him over would be like a get-out-of-Hell-free pass.
She does not! Well, okay, maybe just on anything that smells conspicuously of Morgan. But that's just to get the unpleasant cat odor out of her nose. Callice HATES cats, you know.
(Speaking of cat effluvia, it has escalated to POO. Seriously. The first time, I was willing to accept that this is what happens when you put off cleaning the litterbox, and bore manfully with the consequences. It's happened again on at least two occasions, this time with a clean litterbox. On the upside, poo is easier to clean than wee. And the kicker is, she knows she's not supposed to do it, because the instant it's discovered, she stops purring, looks guilty, and slinks into the bathroom.)

Date: 2008-05-23 10:37 am (UTC)Poo usually means the cat is Extremely Displeased about something. At least, that's what it tended to mean in Choc's case *g*

lucky it weighs like nothing... and we pushed it out of the way while waiting for a knight in shining armour (also known as the roadside care guy with my insurance) to come and rescue us!

I appreciate the offer (and the heart); when I went home to my parents I really wanted Morgan to be there. Cats can be a great comfort in times of sadness.

Date: 2008-05-25 03:50 am (UTC)You have not, because I have lost the cordy thing that plugs into the digicam. Also, I am cheap and wish to purchase a new digicam only AFTER I have obtained a new computer. Whenever that's going to be.
They really can. There's just something about one of them sitting on you and purring, albeit in a "cheer up, emo kid" manner, that's rather reassuring.
