+ Spoke with boss about bereavement leave. I warned her I'd probably need to take the full 3 days to which I am entitled, since it's a 12-hour trip one way from here to Savannah. I will still get paid for it (not that that makes up for the circumstances, but it's nice to know I'm not going to lose money), and she doesn't think I'll need to provide any kind of documentation.

+ Made a poor food choice and had pie for dinner last night. Back on the wagon today (sort of, barring the ice cream I had a few spoonfuls of. Which turned into a lot of spoonfuls). Delicious pie was delicious, though.

+ Lolmom and Diane have reached Savannah. Another one of my aunts called last night in the hopes of swinging by and meeting up with them, but they've been on the road probably about 12 hours already so she's going to have to meet up with Paula (another aunt. Lolmom is one of seven kids. YES WE ARE CATHOLIC, or most of the ones who aren't me are). Lolmom says she will call when she knows something but didn't figure they'd get to see my grandmother before today.

+ Finished Black Robe. Went BAAAAWWWWW at the end because I am apparently the sort of person who gets all emotional over stories about 17th-century Jesuits ministering to the Huron.

+ We were going to have a shindig at work, but due to thunderstorms being in the forecast every day this week, it was postponed (the venue was outdoors). They did thoughtfully feed us lunch, though, and there are enough leftovers for everyone to enjoy some again tomorrow :9

+ I have this damn character running around in my head and nowhere to play him. (And I think it has to be more of a group setting; one-on-one RP is lovely but sometimes you need more dynamics.)

+ Another trip to the CSA! Moar pacchoi (some of which was turned into chow mein; I'm waiting for lolmom's return so I can turn it into salad with avocado), moar lettuce (which is also getting turned into salad), moar kale (that too; I might turn some of it into pesto), moar shallots, and moar onions. Also: A small tatsoi, also some garlic ramsons. I suspect we may be getting Swiss chard and broccoli in the near future (we have a half-share, so we don't get everything that full shareholders do, but we can get an inkling of what's coming next by looking at their shares), and I cut some herbs (dill, rosemary, and oregano) out of the herb garden. Oh, and I opened a can of bean sprouts and now I have to use those up too because I only used about half a cup on the chow mein. It would be so much easier if they were fresh.

Tentative menu plans: Kale will keep for a while in the fridge, and so will pacchoi, so I'm not too worried about either as long as we make something soon. The lettuce is not getting younger, so I think I'm going to make a chicken Cobb salad tomorrow night (that will also use up some of the green onions). Tatsoi might also need to be used quickly, if memory serves, and I should use up those bean sprouts before they get nasty. (Predictably, I have a salad recipe.) Shallots will keep pretty much indefinitely, and so will onions.

+ Must remember to turn the water back on so I can do some dishes. I don't feel up to it tonight, though.

+ I was going to make a really ill-advised post calling somebody out, but that's more because I feel combative and want to pick a fight than it is because I feel deeply bothered or threatened by the behavior, which is not that egregious if I'm honest, and is a minor-league annoyance on the level of my ass itching. (On the other hand, when your ass itches and you can't scratch it...)

Mmmm, pie. ^_^ Sometimes it is the only appropriate food choice! :-)

And mmmm, garlic ramsons. ^_^ There's a delicious cheese from Cornwall that is wrapped in wild garlic leaves - sooo tasty.

...I'd never heard of tatsoi but having looked it up, it also sounds rather good. You're certainly well supplied with tasty greens! :-)

OH GOD I NEED TO EAT THAT CHEESE NOW :DDDD Two of my favorite things combined in deliciousness!

One of the many benefits of living in a mostly-rural area in the spring and summer! :D Also, we have a CSA membership, which has afforded us the opportunity to try new and interesting things.

We get one paid day in connection with bereavement and one day for the funeral (only on the day of the funeral), so I'm rather impressed that you get 3 days.

Where do you get all of your recipes for salads? Do you make most of them up or do you have a go-to site or book?

It varies depending on the employer, but RMUTA allows three days. I'm glad, because I have an 11-hour drive to Georgia ahead of me.

It depends! Sometimes I make them up depending on what we have around the house, but I get a lot of them out of Cooking Light and Eating Well magazines, and if I have something that I don't know what to do with, I'll google things like "[name of tasty food] recipes". With greens, a lot of what comes up is salad.

Tell me of this character! Characters intrigue me. And I may be able to direct you to a place.

Hurrah for intrigue! As far as places go, I'm open provided it's not journal-based (I just find that to be a very disorienting style of play). :D

The particular character is an ex-samurai. (Groan. l33 loooooooooves to pretend to be a samurai on the Internet.) But wait! Rather than my usual run-of-the-mill swaggering ne'er-do-wells of the seventeenth century, this particular character comes from the late nineteenth century and got to see his entire way of life destroyed! (Along with his wife and kids.) As a means of coping with the trauma (physical and otherwise) inflicted upon him by the Bakumatsu, Hideki has opted out of speaking and communicates only in writing. He is fairly social for someone who doesn't talk.

I have a vague idea that he might work in a Weird West sort of game, in which case I have it in mind that he learnt English by going to church, with the result that his English is pretty Biblical and laden with archaisms. Then again, I'd probably have fun with him in a Massive Clusterfuck sort of game, too.

Don't worry, I loathe forum/LJ RP. I only game on MU*s because I'm an impatient bitch and I can't stand waiting for other people to post back and forth with no other communication. REAL TIME FOREVER

Wikidot isn't letting me log in right now because dumb, but when I can get back onto my personal wiki I can shoot you a couple of possible links. I personally have a setting I've been kicking around that might work (to be built on a sandbox), and there are a few wild west games out there. Not sure how active they are these days, but I'd be happy to join up with you. I need moar RP in my life.

I think AIM RP is the greatest thing ever for similar reasons :D

Dumb ruins a lot of things, but hey, whenever you think of it, zap 'em my way. I've been deprived of RP (due largely to my own damn fault), and I'd be glad of the joining-up :D

MU*s are where it is at. Y'HEAR.

The game I have in mind is an invite-only sandbox because the folks on it have had their souls ripped apart by bad grammar and plot and didn't want to deal with that rubbish anymore. At the very least I'm sure you'd be able to find a grid on the place that'd strike your fancy. We have a good selection.

PS ALSO thank you for introducing me to the "Weird West" concept. I had no idea there was an actual term for that genre.

I have never MU*ed! Not against it, definitely, because wheeee instant gratification. Just never found a game I liked well enough.

I have also experienced this "bad grammar" and "bad plot" (not to mention "bad characters") and do not fault them one bit. It sounds like fun.

I can take or leave the actual West, but add some weirdness and I can't stop poking it.
