Whenever I think of Jane Austen, this comes to mind (http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/efeb4dc1b6/jane-austen-s-fight-club).

Jane Slayer was a great book and I plan on getting Pride and Prejudice and Zombies as well as Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters.

There is. It's put on by the JASNA chapter in Louisville, and it lasts two days, though the program of events is pretty much the same both days. This was our second time going and it was a lot of fun :D

I shall not suffer the condescension of this poll.

I've been reading Jasper Fforde's "First Among Sequels", one of his later BookWorld novels, and just got to the part with the out-of-book but in-character P&P folks. Lady Catherine De Burgh is fabulous as always :-)

I didn't know I'd picked a condescending poll. I'll try to choose one with friendlier code next time. However, by clicking on "yay ticky boxes!", you pretty much SEALED YOUR DOOM FOR-EVAR. (Or whatever a supervillain would say in that situation.)

I've heard a lot of good about Jasper Fforde. I should really get to him one of these days, methinks.

Think we crossed wires, I was referring to Lady Catherine De Burgh's "condescension"!

You couldn't condescend if you tried, you're too personable!

I read a few pages of Sam Leith's "The Coincidence Engine" and it was uproariously funny as well. By that I mean I was laughing out loud(ly) in the bookshop. There were people there :-|

As happens often on the Internet. It always amused me that Mr Collins thought her condescension was a good thing, because when I first read P&P I was 13 and I had never heard the word used in a positive sense.

I dunno, my father's wife would certainly think me condescending. Then again, we're talking about a woman who would be the Sears Tower of Stupid if stupidity were measured in architecture.

I've had those experiences. I'm used to being stared at, though, so I just go on my merry way. :D
