I wrote several paragraphs' worth of unalloyed whining, apparently with the intent of letting everyone on my flist see them. On looking at them in the cold light of day, I've decided to just say that the post-unemployment depression has kicked in and leave it at that.

In more constructive news, I've decided to do the 101 tasks in 1001 days thing, starting on my birthday (thus giving us an end date in late March of 2011). I'm debating whether to make my list public (even in the narrow LJ-friends-only sense), since it is kind of personal and there are some things on there that I don't want to really go into a lot of detail about. (I guess I could always post the bulk of it and just censor the parts that are too personal for discussion, thus allowing you to engage in lurid flights of fancy and pretend they're worse than they really are. [livejournal.com profile] augustuscaesar will probably figure most of them out anyway, being The Uncanny Tara.)

I don't know what kind of shot I have at actually doing the 101 things in question, especially since I'm still stalled on the last couple, but I figure it's worth a shot. It'll be a good experiment in self-control and discipline...

...or possibly in murderous rage and self-loathing. THE SUSPENSE WILL KILL SOMEONE YOU!

Have you actually managed to already think of 101 things to do? I can't even manage to think of 100 things to do before I die, let alone in 1001 days.

It would be very interesting to see how you progress, though. :) Even if you keep some of the things hidden.

I've thought of 99 things to do, and I can come up with a 100th without stretching myself too hard. It's the pesky 101st that's killing me.

You can have fun mocking me for my lack of resolve ;)

One option would be to keep the list itself private and just discuss the achievement of the ones you're happy to talk about publicly :)

Ooh. I bet you'd never figure out all 101 things then! ;)

I've considered that, too, but at the same time, I kind of don't want to shut everyone out completely. I know I get annoyed if I'm reading someone's journal and they're making reference to events that are obviously beyond my ken ;)

You must get annoyed by my journal a lot in that case. And then un-annoyed when I finally get around to making a filtered post explaining WHY exactly I've been mooning around *g*

Nah, I understand t4r45p33k by now, so the elucidation is usually helpful rather than unannoying *g*

Incidentally, you sent me something that came today! Huzzah! :D

Ooh, that was REALLY quick. You may choose to open it now or on the 27th - it's nothing much.

Did you just send it yesterday? *g*

I did open it, and am deeply appreciative of the effort it must have taken for you to hunt down this out-of-print piece of scholarly literature, which sheds vast amounts of light on hitherto inadequately explored bits of Cleopatra's life *g* Seriously, I got a giggle out of it, which I figured was the intention.

(Randomly, since Warragul is samurai-deficient, I am told Dover puts out a samurai paper doll book, but I have never been able to lay hands on it. THERE IS NO GOD.)

Did you like the bit about Caesarion, where the book mysteriously fails to mention that he didn't become Pharaoh because good old Augustus killed him off?

I tried to get you a more meaty present, but you are v.hard to buy for when one is limited to Warragul shops.

That bit amused. Though I don't imagine Augustus having him killed off would make for a good sparkly sticker scene. The other thing that amused was that one could get through the whole book without really learning much about who Cleopatra was or what she did *g* But then again, the political situation of late Hellenistic Egypt vis-a-vis the beginnings of Imperial Rome doesn't lend itself well to stickers and coloring. ;)

Still! OMG SPARKLY.

I hear that even from people who aren't only limited to the Warragul shops, so it's probably true *g* H told me he sent me something (he was going to send me one thing, he said, but changed his mind at the last minute, after apparently agonizing for some time about what it should be, Zeus love him), and I am mildly afraid now.

Cat also sent me something which I haven't opened yet, because I am also mildly afraid. I know Cat, and it will not be something mild and inoffensive like a two-volume set of Wingless Butterflies of Scandinavia.

Well, you have to consider the little girl market. So you have Princess Cleopatra And Her Sparkly Stickers.

Ooh, I would like to know what H sends once it arrives :)

Also Cat's gift, although it's sure to put mine to shame because she is a far better gift-giver than I.

Yeah, it doesn't go well with the death-and-gore theme of ancient history. "Place the dagger in the assassin's hand. Put some blood coming out of Caesar's wounds!"

So would I ;)

Nobody is as good a gift-giver as Cat. She gives you stuff you didn't even know you wanted until you got it :)

Oh, god, I want THAT sticker book!

Exactly. She is a big MEANIE like that.

Wouldn't that be fabulous? It would be totally unmarketable, but at least other geeks would get it *g* If all goes well, there could even be spinoffs.

"Place the sparkly bayonet in the revolutionary's hand. Decorate the Winter Palace with a big hammer and sickle flag."

It's okay. We'll gang up on her and TAKE HER CAKE. ;)

ha! I started the 101 things in 1001 days thing and well, Im doing it in a very lydia way.
I never finished the list. I don't remember when I started, but every once and a while, I look at it, cross off the stuff I already did, and write more things on it that I want to do. *shrug* occationally I'll delete things I no longer want to do. like getting Ian to the states because I know it will never happen, nor am I as interested in getting him here as he is no longer my bf.

That is typically Lydian :D I have to have start and end points, being fairly stodgy and fond of routine, because a never-ending list would drive me nuts. Also limiting stuff makes me think about what's important to me, so. :D

Well, that's fair enough. No sense in working overtime to bring your not-bf here. ;)

Also, I still owe you some green paper and yak patties, and will get on this when I have some green paper of my own and can give you some.
