Things That Have Happened Since Last I Wrote:

+ Lolmom's claim has been turned over to the Total Loss Center. Very not-good. We have yet to hear back from them; I assume they are going to call us as it seems to be a dick move not to do so.
+ Remember when I said our first CSA pickup was on Saturday? I lied! It was actually tonight! :D Lolmom and I had been going to hash out who was picking up what when, but we forgot so I went out tonight. We have a bunch of lettuce, a bunch of kale, a head of pacchoi, some shallots, some green onions, and some dried hot peppers left over from last year (which sounds delightful to me and abhorrent to lolmom). There is also a pick-your-own herb garden on the farm, so I need to remember to bring some shears or a knife next time so that we may have delicious herbs. I think the pacchoi is destined to be turned into chicken chow mein (it is related to bok choi, so would probably work) and the kale will probably become our perennial favorite, balsamic kale salad with strawberries and hard-boiled eggs. We have good strawberries and farm-fresh eggs, too! Shallots will keep a while, and so will the peppers since they're dried. I have no idea what to do with the green onions. Salad, maybe. (I'm also not sure about the lettuce; it is fresh and tasty but I like salad to be more composed and less "here's some vegetables we need to use up".)
+ Also, I think we're going to have a delicious spinach salad with apples and oranges and red onion because that just sounds good to me. Actually, I should probably be making it now, but what the hell.
+ J sent me two boxes (large boxes, mind you) of chocolate orange slices, possibly because he is crazy. There is something to be said for having an ex who is still your really good friend and still inexplicably feels something for you. :D (Also: chocolate orange slices.)
+ I ran into Raina (one of my former supervisors) at the store when I swung by to pick up spinach and other things, and she noticed that I'd lost weight. (I actually gained 5 pounds back as of Sunday, and so I'm now in OH NO WE'RE NOT DOING THIS AGAIN, BODY mode. The chocolate orange slices aren't helping, but I've done okay in terms of avoiding other crap.)
+ Next up: some EXCITING pictures of our shower fixtures! (Lolmom wants new fixtures for the upstairs shower, so she was all "lol i n33d u 2 take pix ov this & print out plz". She didn't say anything about uploading to the Internet, so that's what she gets.)

Things that happened over the weekend: I have yellow toenails now, I have filed my income taxes (my federal return has, at least, been accepted), lolmom signed us up for the CSA again, we saw Tangled at the cheap seats, and I made a simnel cake (for Mothering Sunday, which was last Sunday but we do Mothering Sunday our OWN way around here, because we are just rebels like that) and salmon-and-asparagus spring rolls for dinner. Oh, and I talked to J and think I might try to reverse-engineer Deluxe's grilled asparagus salad (scroll down).

Things that are going to happen in the near future: Catch up on my e-mail, do laundry, and figure out what to do with myself.

That's all. :D

So I went to buy some workplace-appropriate flats, since lolmom is tired of my snaffling hers (apparently I "stretch them out" or something) and even though I can wear jeans to work, I can't wear sneakers. Thus, my excursion to Shoe Carnival.

I should mention here that, while I like shoes, I hate shopping for shoes. There are a multitude of reasons for this.

I am totally going to cut my feet off )

And then I went to the grocery store and spent $21 on fish yay. I should really have bought the frozen grouper, both cost-wise and because I could have gotten more, but I WANTED FRESH. Also, tried and failed to find tea for lolmom (Lol-Mart is all out of Twinings' English Breakfast, and so is Schnucks).

In other news, and to appease the many of you who only read my journal to learn how the kit is doing:

Oliver found his favorite ball (it looks like a crumpled-up piece of foil, and I had to remind lolmom not to throw it away) under the china cabinet. He has been playing happily with it all evening, until he got a little overzealous in one corner of the dining room and knocked the phone off the side table, which triggered a frantic run into the living room at top speed. Also, his default mode is "I'm so cute! Rub my tummy!", which is adorable most of the time but doesn't work so well for those special times when I'm trying to take food into the house. He just had his shots, and now he shouldn't need to see the vet for a year, unless he concusses himself knocking things over.

My moral dilemma persists at a medium pace. This won't resolve it, but it would probably be an antisocial act for me to give J an ulcer by not writing, so I'd better get on that.

l33 out.

This has been The Month Where I Have Nothing To Say, apparently. Other than:

1.) I killed a brown recluse in the basement the other day. (Those of you who follow my unexciting nonadventures on Facebook have probably already read about this, complete with J's baffled comments.) I subsequently thought there was another spider in the basement, but upon looking closely realized it was just the shriveled corpse of the brown recluse. Man, they sure look different after you gas them.

2.) Everything kind of feels like a huge ordeal right now. At least I didn't oversleep today, tempting though it was. I also wish it didn't take me forever to perform basic tasks and that more or less everything weren't more interesting to me than what I'm supposed to be doing. A "good" day, at this point, is one where I don't sleep too much, remember to take my meds, and get some exercise. I hope to work up from there, but I figure if I start with small attainable goals I'm probably not going to get overwhelmed and give up.

3.) I really, really miss having the domain and think I might resurrect it, but I'm in this place where I'm making myself earn it and so on.

It rained today, thus ensuring that I did not have to water the plants again. VICTOLY. Also, the first green pepper of the season was ready to pick. Also also, we have eggplants and more tomatoes on the way, but I'm not sure if the eggplants are ready to pick yet and the tomatoes definitely are not. Speaking of tomatoes, I have been vigorously campaigning for GAZPACHO TIME but am undecided about which recipe to use; we made a green gazpacho last year (or the year before) which was very good, but Julia Child also has a recipe for a black bean gazpacho that I'd like to try, and the newest Cooking Light has a more traditional tomato-based gazpacho. HEY I SHOULD HAVE A POLL Y/N?

I finally got everything off the floor of my room, with the exception of stuff that needs to be there (like the fan, and also the shoe rack I've been meaning to put together for, oh, like, years). Hurrah! I now just need to clean under the bed and nightstand, and THEN I get to start in on drawers and closets and other shit. Yes, this is a very thorough cleaning. I am a poor housekeeper, I might add, partially because I view cleaning as "not of general interest" and partially because I was too depressed to give a shit about very much until fairly recently.

Got a very ebullient note from J, who is apparently happy to hear from me (which I did nothing to deserve). I'd certainly rather that than the alternative. Actually, speaking of exes, I have been kind of turning over relationship shit in my head, but have yet to formulate any coherent thoughts about that, so you may or may not be safe from those cerebellum-eroding thoughts in the future.

I have started working on Hittite Week, you'll be delighted to know. HITTITE WEEK: SMASH HIT OF 2011. Also, I would be honored if any of you would name your potential or actual rock bands "Hittite Week Has Been Indefinitely Delayed" or "Hittite Week Is Coming Soon" or something like that.

In theory, INDOT is going to close IN-62 next week. In practice, they had better not because I cannot get to work any other way and will drive through their blockades (lol j/k).

Also, I kind of want to write some shitty Trojan War fic now. THANK YOU [livejournal.com profile] arisha.
