Things that have happened lately, which may or may not be of general interest:
+ Mom's heating coil in her car is shot, so she has a loaner, which spares me the necessity of carting her around (thank God). It will, alas, cost $1500 or thereabouts to fix, and the parts probably won't be in until later this week because that's just how those stories go.
+ Mystery of the Missing Paychecks was solved last week. I was going to cash a couple of paychecks (I get paid every week, and last month I was still getting checks for work I'd billed for in July, since we'd agreed that I'd start on 1 August to make it easier to bill). I was going to go to the bank after I got off the phone with Joy, and couldn't find my paychecks (I distinctly remembered they were in my car), and tore the downstairs apart looking for them. Long story short, I had stuffed them in a library book which I then returned (presumably I put them in there so I wouldn't forget about them). The librarians were nice enough to ring me up and let me know.
+ Had dinner with Joy Fri. night. Mmm, red meat and chocolate pie.
+ Went shopping for YA Poo and pulled stupendous haul. It used to be that I couldn't find SVH to save my life and now they're fucking EVERYWHERE. Bitchin'.
+ Did not see The Last Legion, but did have breakfast at Starbucks on Saturday morning and bought a cute owl plushie they had on clearance. (It was reading, and looked appropriately geeky.)
+ Read some stuff.
+ Failed to read some stuff.
+ Have suddenly taken it into my head that because the Maori language exists, it is my sacred obligation to learn it, and that not only would it be cool to go to New Zealand for this purpose, it is obligatory. This will likely blow over, so don't pay too much attention to my wailing on about how horrible it is that I am not filthy stinking rich and can't afford to live in a foreign country with no visible means of support. Also, my bid to marry
augustuscaesar, despite improved geographical proximity, would fail. Again. (Note to Tara: CALLICE WOULD PROBABLY HAVE TO BE QUARANTINED. WOULD THAT HELP????)
+ Good luck,
dethorats. :D
+ *pets
forgottensanity* <--because I love Cat, as all right-thinking people do, even if she doesn't
+ Happy belated birthday to
syrahsmile.
+ Speaking of birthdays:
jurhael, where is your Amazon wishlist? I thought I had it but now I can't find it. Also, I realize this manner of asking really puts the B into subtle.
+ Holy crap, I just looked at my list. Why were all of you people born in September and October?
+ It is very wrong to link
ukekenshin here, but I am going to do it anyway because I am mean, and evil, and mean. Persons with strenuous moral objections to cute should not look.
+ I think that's it, then.

Date: 2007-09-05 01:22 am (UTC)Amazon has disabled the "pay-through-your-bank-account" option, and I'm trying not to put any more on the credit cards, so it may take a week or two for you to get your stuff, but now that I'm making the bigger bucks, there actually will BE stuff this year. :D I'll mail the check tomorrow. ♥

Date: 2007-09-05 02:19 am (UTC)I THINK YOU SHOULD EMAIL THEM!

Date: 2007-09-05 07:18 pm (UTC)I WAS THINKING MORE LIKE TRYING TO SNEAK CALLICE PAST CUSTOMS AND SEEING WHAT HAPPENS, BUT PERHAPS E-MAILING IS THE WAY TO GO.
Dear NZ Customs,
I am preparing to enter your fine country for the purpose of Valid Scholarly Research and totally not looking at Maori shit except in a Valid Scholarly Manner and DEFINITELY not trying to marry Tara from closer geographical proximity than I had previously enjoyed in my marrying-Tara efforts, but I own a cat who is a wee bomb. I am concerned that I may not be able to bring her into the country, even though she isn't rabid and carries no strange diseases. She will merely upset the delicate balance of domestic vs. imported wee. Plz advise.
Love, Lee.
^ Will that work, do you think?

Date: 2007-09-06 10:35 am (UTC)I think it would be very hard to reject Callice with an email as professional as that. Just as long as she's careful not to wee on the customs people when they're checking her passport.

Date: 2007-09-07 11:44 pm (UTC)Randomly, there is apparently a perfumer named Calice (with one L). I wonder what she's put out, but imagine it would be called Oui. *g*

YA is sadly the joy of my hack reading life.

Question: what is "The Last Legion"? Is it a new movie in theatres, or is it a documentary or other film to which I probably don't have access? I'm intrigued now.
Re: W00t!
Date: 2007-09-06 04:26 am (UTC)Also of interest: Cute Salad (http://www.cutesalad.com). Also also, I followed a link in Rose's journal and found seahorse-shaped cookie cutters, and it took all my willpower to not acquire them on the spot. I figured that eating sweet, delicious seahorse cookies might be a bit weird for you.
Answer: The Last Legion is a new film now in theatres (presumably), which is ostensibly about the reign of Romulus Augustulus, who is the last emperor of Rome in the traditional decline-and-fall narrative. My covenant with faggotry requires that I see it and then complain about anything it may have gotten wrong, because ancient history is SERIOUS FUCKING BUSINESS.
