So at least I've had one good year, even if it all goes pear-shaped in 2012. (I don't know why we use "pear-shaped" to refer to things getting fucked up, anyway. I love pears.)

Notable events of 2011 )

Now, on to Xtremely Srs Bsns that should be taken Vry Srsly: [livejournal.com profile] forgottensanity, your package came today! Thank you ♥ I hope we can hang out more on e-mail and LJ and the like too. It's been a long time since we've talked properly! Also did you make the chocolates yourself?

Life proceeds apace. Lolmom took some wing chairs of my grandmother's up to my aunt Paula in Lafayette (these wing chairs had been sitting around the house for a couple of weeks). There is some familial drama but I don't want to talk about that in a public post.

Those of you who have me friended at Dreamwidth will be seeing a lot of things twice from now on, I'm afraid.

And that's all, folks!

I went to the dentist today. Due to first a long spell of no insurance, and then a spell of bad insurance that did not cover a dental visit (and the fact that when you have to work shitty retail due to the economy, $80 out of pocket is like a ten-hour shift at your shitty job), I hadn't been in a couple of years.

The good news is that I only have two cavities (...for the first time EVAR) and need fillings.

I flap my yap about the bad news. )

Also! I swung by Panera tonight and ran into Joy, whom I haven't seen in yonks, so we had a grand old time catching up and yapping. That was quite nice.

Moar to follow.

Thanks to everyone who posted condolences; I'm in the process of replying individually, though I don't promise that there's any creativity there. I mean, what else can you say besides "Thanks for caring"?

Joy and I went out for lunch on Saturday--I kind of needed to talk to someone who had been through it too, and also I wanted to flog off the opened litter and food on her. (I'm probably going to donate the unopened food and litter; I'm told it will keep for quite a while.) Afterwards, I went to the free zoo PetSmart, only to find that the local Humane Societies were having their adopt-a-thons out front. The Posey Co. Humane Society, which was Callice's shelter of origin, was there, and I chatted briefly with the volunteers; they let me hold one of their cat therapists, who was very amenable to being held and handled and petted, and was also very interested in licking my fingers. (I'd had a turkey and cheese sandwich for lunch, and most of his efforts were invested in trying to get that sandwich. Unfortunately, I had eaten it.) Looked at the contents of PetSmart; fish and crabs are cool, but decidedly lacking in the pettability department.

The computer is still in the shop. 4 srs. We're ringing them up tomorrow if we don't hear back by the end of the day. WHAT THE HELL IS THIS SHIT. WE HAVE ALREADY PAID FOR NEW COMPUTER. I would like to write e-mails to H that aren't five lines long and don't say things like "I'll write a proper reply when I get my computer back."

I have worked for six days straight (I haven't gone in to work today, but am scheduled to do so), have let chores and other things fall by the wayside since I've had a sick cat for the past couple of weeks, and am very much looking forward for my day off tomorrow.

♥ Back later, as ever.

I saw Ronin Gai today; the second word is pronounced "guy", in case [livejournal.com profile] uigenna felt compelled to make a smart remark, as occasionally happens. XD This was the 1980s one, not the original one from back in the day, but still, it was of the pwn. The fight scenes were fabulous and there was actually an ending that someone besides me would recognize as happy (the traditional ending to a samurai film is typically on the order of EVERYBODY DIES).

Still don't have a job.

Also, I present you with a meme ganked from [livejournal.com profile] daturabelle, which I thought might be of use to the new additions to the flist, or to anyone else who's dying of curiosity (all 1.3 of you). The boilerplate:

You know how sometimes people on your friends list post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think, "Wait a minute. Since when are they working THERE? Since when are they dating HIM/HER? Since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you should already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.

OMG BEHOLD. Or don't. )

Things that have happened lately, which may or may not be of general interest:

+ Mom's heating coil in her car is shot, so she has a loaner, which spares me the necessity of carting her around (thank God). It will, alas, cost $1500 or thereabouts to fix, and the parts probably won't be in until later this week because that's just how those stories go.

+ Mystery of the Missing Paychecks was solved last week. I was going to cash a couple of paychecks (I get paid every week, and last month I was still getting checks for work I'd billed for in July, since we'd agreed that I'd start on 1 August to make it easier to bill). I was going to go to the bank after I got off the phone with Joy, and couldn't find my paychecks (I distinctly remembered they were in my car), and tore the downstairs apart looking for them. Long story short, I had stuffed them in a library book which I then returned (presumably I put them in there so I wouldn't forget about them). The librarians were nice enough to ring me up and let me know.

+ Had dinner with Joy Fri. night. Mmm, red meat and chocolate pie.

I CAN HAS MAORI NAO???? )

I apologize for the subject line. I just really needed to scream.

The week is finally 0V4R and I have a headache and my legs ache from sitting in the goddamn car pretty much all day, and I'm going to compound this by going to dinner with Joy. If she makes me pick (even though I picked last time), I'm going to pick someplace with a liquor license. And I have to get up early tomorrow to get the proverbial feet worked on, and I sort of really just want to work on t3h n0v3l. Except I haven't seen Joy in a while, and I need to schlep the produce into the house before it goes bad; it's been riding around in my car all day too. (Don't ask, unless you really want a dissertation on southern Indiana geography.)

Other plans for the weekend involve "seeing The Last Legion" and possibly "seeing The Last Legion and complaining about it here" if it turns out to ping the Bad-History-O-Meter. Also I want to finally finish the disappointment that has been The Dream Thief by Shana Abé. (I read The Smoke Thief last summer, and was also disappointed in it. See under "Really Cool Premise Ruined by Crummy Romance". However, my covenant with reading way the fuck too much requires that I finish it, or I am a moral failure. Plus, if I finish it, I can mock the ending.) And then I want to read a bunch of other stuff.

My point here is that, as of right this very instant, it is the freakin' weekend and I'm gonna go have me some fun. Back later.

The short list of things that have happened:
1.) I got back from Florida. I promise to post about that at some point. But that point is not tonight.
2.) Diane (one of my aunts) came down for the weekend, so it was nice to see her, since I haven't in quite some time. This did put a bit of a crimp in my VAST INT0RWEBZ SOCIAL LIFE etc, but oh well.
3.) I had a flat tire on my way to Corydon this morning, which resulted in my going to the tire shop instead of to work. Now I have new tires on all four wheels. WIN.
4.) Joy called and there was ventage.
5.) I am reading The Bamboo Sword and Other Samurai Tales by Fujisawa Shûhei. I'm about halfway through, but love this book. The ambience is gorgeous.

This post is pre-recorded for your convenience, and has been cobbled together from Friday and also from stuff that happened today. Thus, it is the Post That Ate Suburbia and contains all kinds of boring minutiae about my boring life.

Like, for instance, this. )

Typically I don't beg and plead on here, but this is different. [livejournal.com profile] forgottensanity is doing a survey about gun control laws and attitudes thereto for an exam, and it would be just kickass if she were to get more answers, though she has collected a fair amount so far. The survey is here, and it only takes a couple of minutes.

Tell all your friends. :D

Okay, in like 20 minutes I have to fire up the car and go get dinner. Joy and I have to talk.

Found via Four Stone Hearth. I figure some of you are sick and twisted enough to get a kick out of this.

However, I totally want a robot sommelier.

In terms of actual news, nothing to report, other than that my workload is about to be increased on account of Joy and I share a client and she is leaving to work for a new title company. I am told the client doesn't get that much in the counties Joy covered, so one hopes the transition will be relatively painless.

One hopes.
