So I was bored at work today and while my thoughts were wandering, I happened to remember one of those memes where you compile a soundtrack for your life. I almost did this, but then it occurred to me that every song on that soundtrack would be Boots Randolph's "Yakety Sax" (best known as the theme to the Benny Hill Show, and guaranteed to make anything hilarious). My life is a farce, basically, so pretty much everything could be aptly set to Yakety Sax without seriously compromising the artistic integrity of the whole.

Including the sex scenes.

Especially the sex scenes.
xifeng: (OMG YAY)
Some things that made me happy today:

+ I finally finished the novel I was reading and kvetching about in the last post. Also, and I totally forgot to pick this nit, if you are going to write about Russians, it does sort of help if you do a little basic homework on their culture. I AM ONLY SAYING.
+ OMG YOU GUYS THERE ARE FIREFLIES. I've never seen them this early, but there were a few when I was out for a walk earlier.
+ Camille and Paige and Tiffany and I were hanging out after work, just outside the front doors, and we had one of those brief work post-mortem conversations (as you do), which segued into the following:
Paige: (to Tiffany) Let's go to Chandler [next town over].
l33: There's nothing in Chandler, y'all.
Paige: Sometimes there is. We'll do a drive-by.
l33: Are y'all regulating?
Tiffany: Regulating?
Camille: LOL WARREN G.
l33: It was a clear black night, a clear white moon...
Paige: Oh, God.
Camille: You guys, I have that as a ringtone on my phone!
(Camille takes out her phone and plays "Regulators". Camille, Tiffany, and l33 bust bad white-girl "gang" signs and "dance" spasmodically.)
Paige: OMG YOU GUYS ARE SO WHITE. I DON'T KNOW ANY OF YOU. :D (goes back into the store)
(Tiffany followed shortly after this, and so the League of Pasty White Girls broke up.)
+ Lolmom made whole wheat bread. Also cake. :9
+ I had a short shift, and I have another short shift tomorrow, and I'm off on Tuesday. WIN.

Dude, I was flipping the dial on my way home from the store tonight and I happened to catch ZZ Top's "Pearl Necklace" on 107.5. I'm frankly surprised they had the balls to play it, but I'm delighted because I loved that song in high school (when I didn't really know what it meant and I thought I did because I thought I was a worldly and sophisticated 17-year-old boy BUT ANYWAY) and Josh and I used to sing along with the radio at the tops of our voices on our way to various places. Also, I haven't heard it in years--probably not since I was in high school, for that matter. I don't care if it's insulting to women. I also don't really care what the fact that I like this song says about me.

Why yes, I do have sex on the brain these days.

AND THAT'S NOT JEWELRY SHE'S TALKIN' 'BOUT, IT REALLY DON'T COST THAT MUCH~
xifeng: (Force 'n hoes)
I have given some serious thought to changing my name to Sanjuro and becoming a wandering samurai. It can't possibly pay less than Lol-Mart. On the other hand, I'm not Japanese and would also rather quickly betray the fact that I don't know how to use my swords. It is always something. I guess I could be an Internet badass, but everybody's a tough guy on the Internets.

Good things:
+ I didn't work a full shift today. I also won't work a full shift tomorrow, but I will get out of work when it's still light out.
+ I'm off Monday.
+ The lolmom brought me a danish from the Donut Bank.
+ Delicious peach kefir, I has it.
+ I should have Sanjuro for Monday. When I'm off. YESSSSSS.
+ I am wearing rainbow-striped socks, which are awesome.
+ For Liberty and for Glory, fully 50% of my Amazon order, came today. (Apparently it takes them a little longer to get the assorted volumes of Samurai Deeper Kyo so I have to wait. Ain't no thing.)
+ 15 days until my weekend trip. :DDDDD
+ The lolmom is back to working nights! They've had her working split shifts for about the past month or so and this completely sucked ass.
+ Hyacinths and croci are up in the yard. :DDDDDD
+ I have plenty to read, omg.
+ Also, I have old-school hip-hop on repeat, which is proof that I am probably going to Hell but like I really care at this point. It has a good beat and is easy to "dance" to.

[EDIT: [livejournal.com profile] samanosukesgirl, and anybody else who's interested of course, you may wish to check out [livejournal.com profile] phony_boyfriend. Takeshi has appeared before, but I'm sure nobody would mind seeing him again.]

I realize I've been Inexcusably Out of Touch for the past couple of weeks, and I'm sorry, but my life is conspiring to destroy me with fire for the most part. [livejournal.com profile] uigenna, I promise to hop on and play with teh j00 sometime this week (let me check my schedule). Highlights:
+ I survived Black Friday '09. It wasn't as horrible as last year. I still fully intend for it to be my LAST Black Friday.
+ Thanksgiving was delicious. We got a smaller turkey than we're used to, so there's not much in the way of leftovers after a pot of delicious turkey noodle soup and my famous turkey chili pie (with cornbread topping). :9
+ I now have "More, More, More" by Andrea True on MP3, and it makes me unreasonably happy considering that it's so horribly '70s and would not be out of place on a pr0n soundtrack. (No real surprise, since Andrea True was a porn star.)
+ Speaking of pr0n, I have a whole bunch of romance-and-pr0n meta I might formulate into some coherent bloggery once I figure out what I'm trying to say with it.
+ In the same general league, I had a dream last night that I let myself into H's apartment, only to suggest, once he was home, that we get to the fucking. I woke up before any actual fucking took place, and because it was a fairly real-seeming dream, I was mildly surprised to discover that I was in my own bed. Jesus, I need to get some action or I'm going to go nuts. Perhaps I already have.
+ I have an idea for something I want to write, but I have to let it percolate because it's based on a fairy tale and significant plot elements would have to be finessed in order for it to make sense in my retelling. This makes me crazy.
+ My abs really hurt from starting the 200 Situps program. You use your abs for everything, as I discovered when I did such things as cough only to feel some intense aching in those particular muscles. Owfux.

Good things:
+ I have new earrings. The 'Mart clearanced a whole bunch of them. I don't get a discount on anything that's been clearanced, but they're cheap enough that it doesn't matter.
+ Lol-Mart only wasted 4½ hours of my time tonight, and I have short shifts until my next day off.
+ I started to get back on the wagon with eating properly.
+ The Shell station is hiring; it's nothing fancy or anything I really want, but it would be full-time, which I need, and it would be overnights, which I can deal with.
+ I have batteries for my CD player.
+ I find it really entertaining that, because I have Latin (the language) listed as an interest on my profile, the ads are all like, "MEET LATIN BEAUTIES FIND THE LATIN WOMAN OF YOUR DREAMS!!!!." Lololol.
+ Hey, [livejournal.com profile] jurhael, I don't know if you remember this Sue-we stumbled upon her a few years back during your HoND period-but she finally got sporked, if you haven't seen it yet.

And now, a MEME )

So I went to Bloomington yesterday. Actually, for a change, the point of yesterday wasn't to go to Bloomington, but since Bloomington was on the way back from the classified location I visited for an undisclosed purpose, I visited anyway. Seriously, you don't think I'm going to not go home every chance I get.

([livejournal.com profile] augustuscaesar is not to spew my sekrits to the Int0rbuttz at large, or I will say stupid things that make her laugh until she dies hoard all the carob ever and leverage it to drive the price to ridiculous levels.)

Fortunately for me and my wallet, the used-scholarly-literature bookstore was closed, but Tracks, in its never-ending bid to separate me from my money, was not, so I paid them a visit. More specifically, I paid their punk section a visit, where I proceeded to obtain Give 'Em Enough Rope (to replace the CD that I broke last year when I was in Bloomington and dropped my player) and Sandinista! (to replace the CDs that disappeared into the bowels of somewhere and which I haven't seen in at least 2-3 years. In this manner, I have now ensured that the original Sandinista! will turn up somewhere).

Also, I fell off the wagon, as I've done a few times this year, and visited the Village Deli, which is nomular. I visited the Village Deli specifically for the purpose of obtaining their Wednesday special, a barbeque beef sandwich which I remembered fondly. It turned out to be okay, but not quite as good as I remembered, and I promptly regretted it, which is really the story of all my fallings off the wagon. It makes me wonder if it would even be worth it for good, fresh steak tartare.

I look smaller and older and more tired without a fuckton of makeup and my hair in some kind of order. (Actually, I should probably get Connie to thin out the bangs a bit as otherwise they can look a bit helmet-ish.) It's really kind of weird; I never noticed it before.

I think I have conjunctivitis again, somehow. This blows. It also means I need to chunk and replace an assload of eye makeup, which also blows.

The heat index in Evansville and environs was 98 yesterday. It is projected to be 100 today. As the lolmom will not turn on the A/C, she suggested that I spend the bulk of the day elsewhere if possible. Needless to say, a lot of cold food is being consumed at our house. Also, the cat is DYING of HEATSTROKE and keeps dragging her carcass to various locations, there to flop (in an OMG DYING manner) as if dead in the hopes that I will turn the sun off.

+ Dinner was sweet and delicious. I'm kind of glad I didn't order a full portion of the ahi tuna sashimi and just have that as my meal, although from the weight-loss standpoint I probably should have. (I went over my limit by 400 calories. Yeek.) It was tasty, but it wasn't authentic; I think I vastly prefer honest-to-God Japanese-style sashimi.
+ This weight-loss stuff is hard.
+ This not-cussing stuff is hard. I already owe me $1.50.
+ Our kitchen smells like SWEET, DELICIOUS CARAMEL. This is going to be the best birthday cake EVER. (Until next year.)
+ Mom got me some coasters! Hurrah!
+ I now have "Tarzan Boy" by Baltimora on MP3. This makes me unreasonably happy. If t3h n0v3l ever gets made into a movie, I want "Tarzan Boy" to figure in the soundtrack somehow. This is because I have bad taste. (It doesn't have to be, like, the main theme or anything; the soundtrack people could make a subtle reference to it or just use the chorus and I'd be happy. Actually, the lyrics don't really fit with the story, so sampling the chorus may work best.)
+ The neighbors are setting off fireworks. Callice does not like loud banging noises, probably due to her Angsty Past. (Callice was a year and a half old when she came home with me. She was a feral kitten who was turned in to the shelter; she had been living in a bus engine, and when the bus operator unwittingly started the bus, she was burnt over her back half. You can't tell where the burns were now, but the fact that she was living in a bus engine, combined with some of her other idiosyncrasies, makes me think that she lost her mother early.)
+ Callice would also like the sun turned off.
+ [livejournal.com profile] strawberryjulia, I was just kind of idly wondering if there is, to your knowledge, any Maori-language children's TV programming. I don't watch TV, but I might make an exception for that.
+ I was trying to grind some coffee earlier today and accidentally spilled some of my coffee beans on the floor. The only good thing about this is that our kitchen smelled like coffee for about five minutes, until I swept it up.
+ I seem to have given the lolmom a summer reading program. We were at the bookstore last night and she said something about wanting to read The Pillars of the Earth (Ken Follett), which I have, so I lent it to her, along with The $64 Tomato (William Alexander), which I thought she might like. I've stacked a bunch of other stuff I have that she might like.

So I went Christmas shopping today, which was just perfect because everybody of course wants to drive around in the rain and stand in line for hours and hours and hours. On the other hand, at least I took care of [livejournal.com profile] dethorats' Christmas presents (heh heh heh, I done took care of Price real good) and X-chan. That's the plus side of giving yourself permission to stop when Christmas shopping isn't fun anymore.

Also, I had an eggnog latte made of WIN and finished a couple of books, so yay.

Oh, and I was very restrained when I got to Best Buy, because not only did I not buy [livejournal.com profile] duokinneas some adorable Hello Kitty swag, but I also did not buy a couple of anime DVDs which were, basically, tales of Edo-period horror involving the Goblin Cat and the one about the samurai who poisons his wife. (You know the story; the one where he poisons his wife so he can marry another girl who would be a better alliance but the poison backfires and disfigures the wife and she's so demoralized she dies and then she haunts him for aeons. I'm too lazy to go Wikifag it right now, so that's all you get if you don't already know the story.) This was tremendously restrained for me, since as you know I think the presence of a samurai automatically constitutes Great Art. A samurai could have saved Ishtar. And Bratz: The Movie.

Running commentary:

1.) YAY BOOKS :D
2.) YAY FOR BEING ABLE TO KIND OF WRITE STUFF (even though it's on the "secondary novel", which is the one that doesn't have a set plan and I just write the dumbest shit that I wish I wasn't writing but fleshing out the world is fun)
3.) I have learnt that "He Moved Through the Fair" makes me want to be thirteen again so I can cry soppily over it. Curse you, [livejournal.com profile] queen_lily_rose!
4.) I am not getting enough sleep lately.
5.) I would make another comment here but it's raunchy and nobody wants to hear it and you'd all be better served if I don't say anything.
6.) H wrote! :DDDDD
7.) I'm in ur jurnaleng w3bstie sp4mm1n ur fr3nz page :D
8.) And in the spirit of [livejournal.com profile] driley1, I would encourage you to accept Tom Cruise as your personal savior, if for some ungodly reason you haven't done so already. Infidels.
9.) Oh, and in the spirit of [livejournal.com profile] dethorats whose recent Metalocalypse fic is totally bitchin', WOLF VOMIT IS SO TOTALLY METAL.
10.) I wonder how much of this will still be funny tomorrow.
11.) Okay, I need to log off and go to bed now.
